I think I found a rather small bug: when changing the remote shell executable 
(rsh, ssh, whatever) with siteconfig, the changes are written but the 
executables lapw1para_lapw, lapw2para_lapw and lapwsopara_lapw are not 
chmodded executable, which causes a halt later on when those executables are 
called.
