[Wien] Two or one CPU's ?

I'm trying to decide on the relative merits of two CPUs
systems versus 2xone CPU systems. From what I can see
about the current status of pthreads in linux and mkl/ifc
mkl/ifc does not like the linux threads so does not
take advantage of it. Hence for fine-grain parallelization
some combination of mpi+scalapack is needed. I'd be
interested in comments about how much dual-cpu systems help
relative to more single-cpu systems (or don't help). Unless
the answers are of general interest to this group, perhaps
contact me off-line; I will try and generate a summary of
what people say and post this (if it is of interest).
