Dear Peter and Wien user,
I have been able to have an access to a Xeon (5140) computer 2
chips/2cores per chip
Detail is below:
- bi-Xeon 5140 (dualcore à 2.33Ghz, 64 bits, 4Mo de cache partagé)
- 4 Go de mémoire FBDIMM PC5300 667 Mhz
- FSB 1333MHz
Lapw1c has been compiled with intel fortran:
FOPT = -FR -mp1 -w -prec_div -pc80 -pad -ip
BLAS/LAPACK (goto_core2-1.08)
$(FOPT) -L../SRC_lib -llapack_lapw -L/home/florent.boucher/GotoBLAS -lgoto
Here are the results on the official WIEN benchmark:
1 k-point (OMP_NUM_THREADS=1, only 1 core used): 134s
2 k-points in parallel at the same time (2 of the 4 cores are used):
145s (efficiency = 92%)
4 k-points in parallel at the same time (4 of the 4 cores are used):
184s (efficiency = 73%)
One see effectively that Xeon 2.33 are about 1.6 faster than Opteron 2.2
but the ratio decrease to 1.3 if one compares the performance on a fully
loaded system.
I hope it helps.
Regards
Florent
PS: for those that will be interested in VASP serial (same compiler,
same BLAS library), the ratio found is 1.17 in favor of the Xeon
