Dear Arin,
I agree with you, the problem does not come from the .machine file as 
effectively the lapw1 -p was OK.
You should have a look into the lapw2 error files and output files to 
figure out was is going wrong.
Normally, every parallel job can be started using a specific .def file 
using a command like lapw2c lapw2_1.def
Are you able to start such a job and what is happening ?
