Try to login: ssh jru at penelope If it still asks you the password, type your
password to see if ssh is working. If it is working correctly, I think you
made a mistake when copying id_rsa.pub to authorized_keys. If you use cp,
the permission of authorized_keys is the same with id_rsa.pub (-rw-r--r--).
authorized_keys should have only -rw------. (you should have done instead:
cat id_rsa.pub >> authorized_keys)

You just need to: chmod go-rwx ~/.ssh.authorized_keys
