[Wien] octave problem

Dear Wien2k team,
octave is not following its readme.txt. The statement
<s1=loadstruct("GaAs.struct")>
gives only a one-line result,
<1x1 struct array containing the fields:>
and no coordinates.

Has something gone wrong on update from Ubuntu12 to Ubunu14?
.bashrc contains
export OCTAVE_EXEC_PATH=${PATH}::
export OCTAVE_PATH=${STRUCTEDIT_PATH}::
alias octave="octave -p $OCTAVE_PATH"
