<p>The advantage of Intel chips is that the ifort compiler and mkl libraries are do a good job optimising for them. Sometimes they are not so fast for AMD. However, other things such as RAM, disk speed, cache also matter.</p>
<p>If you are buying a cluster, get the vendor to let you benchmark. </p>
