[Wien] Does increasing shell values make sense here?

Hello,
I did not work with HP machines, but I had a similar problem on IBM-SP4.
It seems that you are trying to link 64-bit object file with a 32-bit
library.
I solved this problem by setting a system variable OBJECT_MODE=64. It
tells linker to do a 64-bit link.
But this is on AIX. On your machine you probably have something similar
(?).
You can try to find it on linker man page ("man ld").
