[Wien] about the near edge x-ray absorption spectrum

hi, you quite agree with your idea, but my question is how can you get the
band gap specially between the top of the valence band and the bottom of
the conduction band by only the absorption spectrum. let me stress my
point, I do not care the valence band, neither the conduction band, but
  I just want to know what is the band gap between them only by the
near edge x -ray spectrum. thanks for your reply.
