 	At least for redhat go to http://people.redhat.com/steved/bz170423/
and install the appropriate Kernel; we're using it, cures the problem and 
it's safe. I'm told that this is will probably be the kernel in the next 
full redhat release.
 	Unfortunately vendors customize their kernels, so this may well 
not work on other systems.
