Up to some time ago, we took as a server an older, slower machine, who's
only task was 'serving' (not calculating). Jobs were started directly on the
clients themselves. Every parallel job has therefore its own 'mother
machine', and we avoid burdening a single one with all the non-parallel
tasks. (our current set-up is less nice, but we're evolving towards that
scheme again, hopefully).
