I can understand most of your points. Only this point(above) i can't.
I think eigenvalues are <i|H|j> ( |i> and |j> is eigenfunctions,which is expanded by basis set )
So how  the number of eigenvalues is related to the elements in basis set ?
There must be something wrong with my understanding, would you help me correct ?
